Hot spring (Onsen)

This acidic hot spring has high bactericidal properties, and is said from ancient times to cure diseases that doctors have given up on. It is recently attracting attention not just for its positive health effects, but also for maintaining beautiful skin for women. Not only that, it also promotes metabolic changes, which is ideal for those who want to lose weight. To gain maximum results and enjoy the hot spring to the fullest, it is important to pour several wash-basins-full of hot spring water before entering the tub to acclimatize your body to the temperature. Each season reveals a new face, making it seem like itfs your very first time. Experience the subtle Japanese beauty.

How to take a bath, Japanese style!

You are only to go inside the bath tub after you washed your body. First of all, you have to rinse your body with hot water. Washing beforehand helps to keep the water in bath tub clean. The rinsing and washing of your body with hot water also acclimatizes you to the hot temperature of the bath tub. Please do not jump into the water like diving in to a swimming pool. Bring with you the small towel that will be provided with you and please do not put the hand towel into the bath tub water. Most people place the towel on their head. And remember do not use any soap or shampoo or other skin cleansers in bath tub. To keep the vitality and the lingering effects of the hot springs water, it is better not to wash your body by shower or hot water directly after going out of bath tub.

Recommendation for rinsing

Some hot springs recommend that visitors not rinse their bodies after getting out of the tub, but the hot spring water of Kusatsu Onsen is very strong. We recommend our visitors to use the shower to rinse their bodies, especially for those with sensitive skin.

All of our baths at this hotel employ the kakenagashi system, where the bath water is never reused. At all times we ensure an abundance of fresh hot spring water in the tubs. Making cleanliness our top priority, we completely drain all the tubs every day for cleaning. Therefore, baths are unavailable for use between check-out (10:00 a.m.) and check-in (2:00 p.m.).
